SIBU – The Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) has joined forces with the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 (JBPM4) to implement the Drug-Free Workplace Programme (TEKAD), reinforcing efforts to ensure a safe and healthy working environment free from substance abuse.
The programme, held on 18 April at the JBPM4 Office Meeting Room, Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station, Jalan Tun Tuanku Bujang, involved 19 JBPM4 supervisors who participated in Phase 2 of the initiative.
TEKAD is designed as a structured workplace strategy to prevent drug abuse and promote employee well-being.
JBPM Zone 4 has already demonstrated strong commitment by completing the initial phases of the programme, which include Step 1 (Phase 1) focusing on leadership commitment from top management, and Step 2 (Phase 1) involving the establishment of an Anti-Drug Committee and workplace policy.
Currently, JBPM Zone 4 is implementing Step 3 (Phase 2), which centres on training for employers and supervisors.
This stage aims to strengthen internal monitoring and ensure that staff are equipped to identify and address potential risks.
The programme functions as an early detection mechanism, enabling supervisors to identify employees at risk of drug or substance abuse.
Those identified will be referred for early intervention sessions, ensuring they receive appropriate support and guidance to overcome challenges.
The initiative reflects a proactive approach to workplace safety, combining prevention, monitoring and intervention.
By embedding TEKAD into daily operations, JBPM Zone 4 is working to create a healthier, more resilient workforce capable of delivering essential services to the community.
Supporting the programme’s implementation were JBPM Zone 4 Head Andy Alie and AADK Enforcement and Security Unit Head Mohamad Farizal Mohamad Buang, who emphasised the importance of collaboration in tackling workplace drug issues.
Observers note that TEKAD represents a significant step in aligning workplace practices with national anti-drug strategies.
By fostering awareness and accountability, the initiative strengthens both organisational integrity and employee well-being.
The collaboration between AADK and JBPM4 highlights the growing emphasis on workplace safety and health in Sarawak, ensuring that public service agencies remain committed to maintaining drug-free environments for the benefit of employees and the wider community.
