Mukah Police Arrests A Local Man for Drug Possession

MUKAH – Police in Mukah have detained a 38-year-old local man following a raid that uncovered suspected methamphetamine at a workers’ housing area linked to a quarry company.

The operation, carried out by the Narcotics Crimes Investigation Division of Mukah District Police Headquarters on 22 April 2026 at around 11.50 am, was based on intelligence received by officers.

During the raid in front of a company employee’s residence along Jalan Mukah-Selangau, investigators discovered several transparent straw tubes containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu.

Authorities confirmed that the drugs seized weighed approximately 0.43 grams. The suspect, who works as a mechanic, was taken into custody along with the confiscated items. A subsequent urine test revealed positive results for both amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Police stated that the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Initial findings also indicated that the suspect has three prior records related to drug offences.

On 23 April 2026, the accused was brought before the Mukah Magistrate’s Court to face charges of drug possession. The charges were read before Magistrate Romario Jonoi, but no plea was recorded.

Inspector Mohd Nazri Harissman bin Daee, acting as prosecuting officer, requested a new date for interim mention pending the chemical analysis report. Magistrate Romario Jonoi approved the application and set 6 July 2026 for further mention of the case.

The accused, who was not represented by legal counsel, was granted court bail of RM3,000 with two local guarantors.

Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal bin Alias confirmed the arrest and emphasised that enforcement against drug-related offences will continue to be prioritised in the district.

The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the community from the dangers of drug abuse and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
