KUCHING – The Borneo Mazu Cultural Festival is set to return to Kuching this May, with organisers expecting strong participation from both local communities and international visitors.
Delegations from countries including Indonesia, Singapore, and China are anticipated to join the third edition of the festival, which will run from 3 May onwards.
The event is organised by Brief Sojourn Palace, located on Jalan Petanak, and aims to celebrate cultural heritage while promoting Kuching as a vibrant tourism destination.
Among the highlights of the festival is a colourful boat parade along the Sarawak River, beginning at the Pangkalan Sapi jetty in Petra Jaya. A fireworks display will also light up the city skyline, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Mulu Meeting Room, Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Sarawak.
Organisers expressed their gratitude to the ministry for its support in promoting the festival as a key cultural attraction in Sarawak.
The Borneo Mazu Cultural Festival has grown steadily since its inception, with each edition drawing larger crowds and greater international interest.
The event not only showcases traditional performances and rituals but also fosters cross-cultural exchange, strengthening ties between Sarawak and its regional neighbours.
Local traders and tourism operators are expected to benefit from the influx of visitors, with the festival providing opportunities to highlight Sarawak’s diverse cultural offerings.
Organisers have emphasised that the event is designed to be inclusive, welcoming participants from all backgrounds to experience the richness of Borneo’s traditions.
With its combination of river parades, fireworks, and cultural showcases, the festival promises to be a memorable occasion for residents and tourists alike.
The organisers hope that the celebration will continue to build momentum in future years, positioning Kuching as a hub for cultural tourism in the region.
