KUCHING – Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) have been reminded to deepen their understanding of national and state affairs, including the Federal Constitution, Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Rukun Negara, and government policies, to ensure accurate information is conveyed to the people.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian stressed that KMKK plays a crucial role as an intermediary between the government and the community.
He noted that while policies are often designed for the public good, misinformation and negative narratives tend to spread more quickly.
“This is very important because we are currently facing some inappropriate behaviour. Although the policy is good, there are still those who say the wrong thing.
If it is negative, it is being developed,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Malaysia MADANI National Seminar at the Sarawak State Assembly Building on Wednesday.
Dr Sim further emphasised the importance of community leaders providing accurate feedback to the Sarawak government, enabling more effective improvements.
He highlighted that KMKK must also understand the role of the Sarawak State Assembly (DUN), particularly in passing laws that benefit the state.
He pointed out that the DUN has approved several significant laws, including the Sarawak Sales Tax and the implementation of the carbon levy, which provide advantages to Sarawak.
“That is why the DUN is very important and all community leaders should know and understand all these matters,” he added.
Also present at the seminar was Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Office (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, along with other officials.
The seminar underscored the need for KMKK to act as informed communicators, ensuring that government policies are properly understood and effectively implemented at the grassroots level.
