SELANGAU – The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Sibu District, in collaboration with the Sarawak National Security Council (MKN) Sibu Branch and the Rumah Alexson Segie Anak Mekie Village Development and Security Committee, organised a family-centred programme on 25 April 2026 to strengthen community resilience against drug abuse.
The initiative, held at Rumah Alexson, aimed to raise awareness among longhouse residents about the dangers of drug misuse and to empower families to act as the first line of defence in combating social issues.
The programme also focused on life skills training and resilience-building to prevent involvement in harmful activities.
A total of 90 participants, comprising residents of the longhouse and nearby areas, attended the event. Key activities included a Family Intervention Talk and Group Training sessions conducted by AADK officers.
These sessions provided practical guidance on how families can support one another in resisting drug-related influences.
The Selangau Fire and Rescue Department (BBPS) also contributed by delivering safety talks and hosting exhibitions, reinforcing the importance of community preparedness.
To instil positive values among younger participants, a colouring competition with an anti-drug theme was organised for children aged between four and twelve.
An anti-drug exhibition was set up to highlight the harmful effects of substance abuse, offering participants a deeper understanding of the risks involved.
In addition, AADK opened an online registration counter for its Anti-Drug Squad (SKUAD Antidadah), encouraging individuals aged 18 and above to volunteer and support ongoing efforts.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Administrative Officer Chua Siong Wei, representing the Selangau District Officer.
Also present were AADK District Head Azimah Marsid, MKN Sibu Branch Head Nur Syahirah Samsul, BBPS representative Hansil Boniface, and Tuai Rumah Alexson.
Officials emphasised that family involvement is crucial in preventing drug abuse, with parents and guardians playing a central role in monitoring and guiding younger generations.
