LIMBANG – More than 400 participants gathered in Limbang last weekend for the Limbang Agro Fun Run 5km, an event designed to foster unity and friendship among the district’s diverse communities.
The run, held at Lot 777 Limbang car park, formed part of the wider Limbang Agrofest 2026 celebrations. Organised through a collaboration between the Limbang Division Agriculture Office, the Limbang Division Youth and Sports Office, the Limbang Agriculture Office Recreation Sports Club, Sport Gallery, and the Ayam Kampung Berlusir Club, the programme highlighted the theme “Unity of the Ummah is the Basis of Friendship”.
Participants from various backgrounds joined the leisurely five-kilometre run, which was intended to encourage social interaction and strengthen ties across different races and communities in the division. The event was not competitive in nature but instead focused on inclusivity and collective enjoyment.
The run was officially flagged off by Yang Berhormat Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Ismail, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development of Sarawak, who also serves as the Assemblyman for N79 Bukit Kota Limbang. His presence underscored the government’s support for initiatives that promote community harmony and healthy lifestyles.
Officers from the Limbang Division Youth and Sports Office also participated, reflecting the commitment of local agencies to encourage public involvement in recreational activities. Their engagement was seen as a way to inspire young people and families to take part in events that combine health, culture, and social unity.
The Limbang Agro Fun Run was more than just a sporting occasion. It served as a platform to showcase the importance of friendship and cooperation among the multi-racial population of Limbang. Organisers emphasised that such events contribute to building stronger community relations, while also promoting wellness and active living.
Agrofest 2026 itself has been positioned as a celebration of agriculture, culture, and community spirit. By incorporating recreational programmes like the fun run, the festival aims to attract wider participation and highlight the role of sports in bridging social divides.
Local observers noted that the turnout demonstrated strong public interest in activities that combine leisure with social values. The event also reflected Sarawak’s broader efforts to encourage inclusivity and unity across its diverse population.
As Limbang continues to host community-driven programmes, the Agro Fun Run stands out as a reminder that shared experiences, whether through sports or cultural events, remain vital in strengthening bonds among residents.
