Sarawak Bamboo Industry Strengthened Through Training Course

SERIAN/SABAL – The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), through its Bamboo and Carbon Section in collaboration with the Industry Skills Development Section, has successfully organised the first series of the Bamboo Species Identification and Breeding Techniques Course.

The two-day programme, held on 28–29 April 2026 in Serian and Sabal, reflects STIDC’s commitment to advancing the state’s bamboo industry.

A total of 27 participants from various sectors took part in the training, which was conducted with expert guidance from the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM).

The course focused on equipping participants with technical skills in morphological identification and breeding practices, ensuring that the supply of raw materials for the bamboo industry remains sustainable and of high quality.

The initiative is part of STIDC’s broader strategy to empower the bamboo sector as a viable contributor to Sarawak’s green economy.
