Incident Overview

SIBU (June 6) – In the early hours of the morning, three speedboats berthed at Sarikei Wharf in Jalan Khoo Peng Loong were completely destroyed by a fire. The incident occurred around 1.32am, prompting an immediate response from local firefighters.

Swift Response by Firefighters

According to Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Andy Alie, the emergency call was received at 1.32am, alerting them to the fire at the wharf. Firefighters from the Sibu Central fire station were promptly deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander conducted a size up and instructed personnel to start the firefighting operation,” Alie reported.

Firefighting Efforts

Given the presence of diesel in the boats, firefighters utilized foam type fire extinguishers to combat the blaze. The swift and strategic response was crucial in containing the fire and preventing further damage.

Owners Absent During Incident

At the time of the incident, the owners of the speedboats were not present at the scene. This absence fortunately resulted in no reported injuries.

Investigation Underway

The firefighting operation concluded successfully at 2.10am. Currently, the cause of the fire remains under investigation by Bomba. More details will be shared as the investigation progresses.
