KUCHING – The Sarawak MyCommodity TVET Programme Opening Ceremony 2026 was held today at the Sarawak State Farmers’ Association Hall, marking a significant step in advancing skills development and industry collaboration in the state.
The event was jointly organised by Sarawak Skills and the Malaysian Institute of Plantations and Commodities (IMPAC).
It was officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Plantations and Commodities, who highlighted the importance of equipping Sarawak’s workforce with specialised training to meet the evolving demands of the plantation and commodities sector.
The ceremony featured several key highlights, including the exchange of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between stakeholders, the presentation of certificates to graduates of the Harvesting Specialist Programme, and a sharing session involving Sarawak Skills and industry representatives.
These activities underscored the programme’s role in bridging the gap between training institutions and the needs of the commodities industry.
The MyCommodity TVET initiative is designed to provide targeted technical and vocational education, focusing on practical skills that are directly applicable to the plantation and commodities sector.
By aligning training with industry requirements, the programme aims to produce a workforce that is not only competent but also adaptable to technological advancements and sustainability practices.
Minister Noraini emphasised that the programme reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening human capital development, particularly in sectors that contribute significantly to Sarawak’s economy.
She noted that collaboration between educational institutions and industry players is vital to ensuring that training remains relevant and impactful.
The Harvesting Specialist Programme, one of the initiatives under MyCommodity TVET, has already begun producing skilled workers capable of supporting productivity and efficiency in plantations.
The certificate presentation at the ceremony symbolised the successful completion of training by participants, who are expected to contribute meaningfully to the sector.
Industry representatives also shared insights during the session, highlighting the importance of continuous learning and innovation in maintaining competitiveness.
They stressed that programmes such as MyCommodity TVET are essential in preparing Sarawak’s workforce for future challenges, including sustainability and global market demands.
