BINTULU – The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has taken a significant step towards enhancing marine conservation efforts in Bintulu waters through a strategic engagement with Samalaju Industrial Port Sdn Bhd (SIPSB).
The meeting, held on 5 May 2026, focused on exploring collaborative opportunities to safeguard marine ecosystems while supporting sustainable industrial growth.
The SFC delegation was led by General Manager Tn Abang Arabi bin Abang Aimran, who was warmly received by SIPSB Chief Executive Officer Tn Sufri bin Hj Bohari and the port’s management team.
The session highlighted the importance of building partnerships between conservation agencies and industry players, recognising that both sectors share responsibility in protecting marine biodiversity.
Discussions centred on integrating conservation initiatives into industrial operations, ensuring that economic development and environmental stewardship progress hand in hand.
The engagement reflects a forward-looking approach, where industries operating in coastal areas are encouraged to adopt practices that minimise ecological impact while contributing to long-term sustainability.
Marine ecosystems in Bintulu are known for their rich biodiversity, supporting fisheries, tourism and local livelihoods. However, increased industrial activity and global environmental pressures have heightened the need for proactive conservation measures.
By fostering collaboration between SFC and SIPSB, the initiative aims to balance development with ecological preservation, ensuring that Sarawak’s marine heritage remains resilient for future generations.
The meeting also underscored the role of corporate responsibility in environmental protection. Industry partners such as SIPSB are seen as crucial allies in implementing conservation programmes, from habitat restoration to awareness campaigns.
Such partnerships can strengthen monitoring efforts, improve resource management and create shared platforms for education and community engagement.
SFC reiterated its commitment to advancing marine conservation through strategic alliances, emphasising that protecting natural resources is not only a government responsibility but also a collective effort involving businesses, communities and stakeholders.
The corporation believes that initiatives like this will set a precedent for other industrial players in Sarawak to adopt similar collaborative approaches.
The engagement concluded with both parties expressing optimism about future cooperation, with plans to explore specific projects that align with conservation priorities and industrial operations.
This marks an important milestone in Sarawak’s broader vision of sustainable development, where environmental integrity is upheld alongside economic progress.
