KUCHING – Ten men were arrested during an integrated operation, “Ops Cegah Bil 39/2026″, carried out across several districts including Kuching, Lundu and Bau on 29 April 2026.
The operation targeted areas identified as hotspots, among them Kampung Astana, Bandar Baru Semariang, Kampung Perian in Lundu, Kampung Singai Atas in Bau, and Kampung Tanjung Bako.
Authorities confirmed that all individuals detained tested positive for methamphetamine and THC. No cases involving ketamine or mitragyna were detected during this round of enforcement.
The arrests were made under Section 3(1) of the Drug Addicts and Abusers (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
The provision allows authorities to detain individuals for investigation and rehabilitation purposes, reflecting the government’s dual approach of enforcement and treatment in tackling drug-related issues.
Law enforcement agencies stressed that operations of this nature will continue to be intensified to safeguard communities from the dangers of drug abuse.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and well-being, noting that consistent enforcement is essential to reducing the prevalence of narcotics in local communities.
Ops Cegah has been a recurring initiative aimed at curbing drug abuse across Sarawak. By focusing on identified hotspots, the operation seeks to disrupt drug distribution networks while ensuring that individuals found abusing substances are channelled into rehabilitation programmes.
The latest arrests highlight the ongoing challenges posed by methamphetamine and cannabis derivatives, which remain among the most commonly abused substances in the region.
Authorities emphasised that community cooperation is vital in supporting enforcement efforts, encouraging residents to report suspicious activities to help curb the spread of drug abuse.
The operation underscores Sarawak’s broader commitment to tackling drug-related issues through integrated strategies that combine enforcement, rehabilitation and public awareness.
Officials assured that similar initiatives will be carried out regularly to strengthen community resilience against narcotics.
