Senaman Cergas 1Kenyalang Set to Energise Kuching Community

KUCHING — A new chapter in community fitness is taking shape in Sarawak as Senaman Cergas 1Kenyalang prepares to bring people together through a large-scale, inclusive exercise event in the state capital. The programme is expected to become a key highlight in Kuching’s event calendar, combining health, unity and strong community spirit in one platform.

The event stands out as the first of its kind in Sarawak to integrate three popular fitness elements — Aerobic, Aerodance and ZUMBA — into a single programme. It will be held alongside the DBKU Car Free Morning Petra Jaya Edition and in conjunction with WAK Kuching Festival 2026, strengthening its role as both a fitness and lifestyle event for the public.

The initiative was introduced during a press conference officiated by the Mayor of Kuching North City Hall, Dato Haji Hilmy Othman, represented by Deputy Director of Community Services, Rudzaimeir Malek. In the speech delivered, it was emphasised that the event goes beyond exercise, serving as a meaningful platform to promote healthy living while bringing together people from different backgrounds.

According to the organisers, combining Aerobic, Aerodance and ZUMBA creates a lively and engaging environment suitable for all age groups. Families, youths and working adults are encouraged to participate, making it a shared community experience rather than a typical fitness session.

The programme also supports DBKU’s wider vision of transforming urban spaces into active, family-friendly and environmentally responsible areas. By aligning with the car-free morning initiative, the event encourages residents to make better use of public spaces while adopting healthier lifestyles.

Organising chairperson Dr Dayang Elena Maria said the event is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants, supported by experienced instructors from around Kuching. She added that the aim is to ensure a fun, energetic and safe experience for everyone involved while strengthening community bonds.

In addition to the fitness sessions, participants will have the opportunity to take part in lucky draw activities, adding excitement to the event. Registration is open under two categories, with or without event T-shirts, and will close on 10 September 2026.

Media partner Sarawak Daily will support this meaningful community event by promoting through their online platforms Kuching King and Kuching Explorer, helping to reach a wider audience across Sarawak and beyond.

Dr Dayang Elena Maria expressed confidence that Senaman Cergas 1Kenyalang can grow into an iconic community fitness event that reflects Sarawak’s active and united spirit. There are also plans to expand the programme to other major towns such as Sibu and Miri in the future.

As preparations move forward, the public is encouraged to take part and support what is shaping up to be one of Kuching’s most anticipated community fitness events in 2026. With strong backing from local authorities, partners and media platforms, the programme is set to leave a lasting impact on community health and engagement in the state.
