SPAOH – A monitor lizard caused alarm in Kampung Tengah Bungin on 6 May 2026 after entering the kitchen of a local residence.
The incident prompted the homeowner, Mr Aidil, to contact the Spaoh District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) for assistance.
Responding swiftly to the call, four members of Bravo Squad, led by Sergeant (PA) Hasla bin Deli, were dispatched to the scene equipped with tools designed for handling wild animals. Upon arrival, the team assessed the situation and began the capture process.
The operation took approximately six minutes, during which the officers successfully lured and secured the reptile.
The monitor lizard, measuring around 360 millimetres in length, was safely contained and transported back to PKOD for further action.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. The team returned to PKOD within 16 minutes of completing the capture, ensuring the animal was handled in accordance with safety procedures.
The Civil Defence Force (APM) in Spaoh highlighted the importance of community vigilance when encountering wildlife in residential areas.
Residents are advised not to attempt handling such animals themselves, as monitor lizards can be unpredictable and potentially dangerous if provoked.
Officials reminded the public that emergency services are available to assist in similar situations. The APM reiterated its commitment to the motto “Ready, Fast, Integrity”, underscoring its dedication to rapid response and public safety.
Residents in Spaoh and surrounding areas are encouraged to contact the district operations centre at 083-473006 or dial 999 in the event of emergencies involving wildlife, fire, medical, or other urgent matters.
This incident serves as a reminder of the close proximity between human settlements and wildlife in Sarawak, where encounters with reptiles and other animals are not uncommon.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of reporting such cases promptly to ensure both community safety and the humane handling of wildlife.
