SELANGAU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Selangau District successfully carried out an operation to destroy multiple beehives at a water facility on 8 May 2026, following a report from the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).
The Selangau District Operations Control Centre received the call regarding the presence of insect nests at the JBALB water tank.
Upon inspection, officers discovered 15 large beehives located approximately 70 feet above ground level. The nests posed a potential risk to workers and residents in the area, prompting immediate action.
APM Selangau deployed personnel to the site and utilised a skylift to reach the elevated location. The destruction was carried out using controlled burning methods, ensuring the removal of the hives without endangering the surrounding environment.
Throughout the operation, conditions remained stable, and no untoward incidents were reported. The Civil Defence Force emphasised that the intervention was necessary to safeguard public health and safety.
Large beehives can pose serious risks, particularly when situated near essential infrastructure such as water tanks.
Stings from bees can cause severe allergic reactions in some individuals, while the presence of multiple hives increases the likelihood of aggressive behaviour from the insects.
