KUCHING – Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, presided over the Pre-Council Meeting and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council today.
The gathering was held at the party’s headquarters in Jalan Bako, Kuching, in preparation for the upcoming State Legislative Assembly session.
The meeting was attended by Sarawak’s deputy premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, and members of the State Legislative Assembly also joined the discussions, underscoring the importance of the session ahead.
The Fifth Term of the Nineteenth Sarawak State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to convene from 11 to 20 May 2026 at the DUN Complex. Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar confirmed that four government bills will be tabled during the sitting.
He explained that the Supplementary Supply Bill (2025) 2026 and the Supplementary Supply Bill (2026) 2026 will be presented on 12 May, followed by the Sarawak Paddy and Rice Board Bill 2026 and the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill 2026 on 14 May.
These bills are expected to address financial allocations, agricultural development, and economic governance, reflecting the state’s focus on strengthening both fiscal management and food security.
The Paddy and Rice Board Bill, in particular, is anticipated to enhance oversight of rice production and distribution, while the amendment to the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation Bill aims to modernise its functions in line with current economic needs.
In addition to legislative matters, PBB Sarawak announced plans to hold a four-zone convention between July and September 2026. The convention will be divided into southern, Betong, central, and northern zones, each led by senior party figures.
Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof will oversee the southern zone, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will lead Betong, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi will manage the central zone, and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will head the northern zone.
According to Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the conventions will serve as platforms for party members to deliberate on organisational matters and strengthen grassroots engagement.
He emphasised that the initiative reflects the party’s commitment to inclusivity and regional representation, ensuring that voices from across Sarawak are heard.
The conventions are expected to provide opportunities for members to discuss pressing issues, including leadership succession, policy priorities, and strategies for future elections.
They will also reinforce unity within the party while preparing for broader challenges in governance and development.
The Premier’s presence at both the pre-council meeting and the Supreme Council highlights the significance of these events in shaping Sarawak’s political and legislative agenda.
With the Assembly session approaching, the state government is poised to address key matters of finance, agriculture, and economic reform, while the PBB conventions will further consolidate party organisation across Sarawak’s diverse regions.
