MUKAH – Police in Mukah have detained five men suspected of involvement in drug abuse activities following a raid in the Bukit Kerangan area, Sungai Kua, Selangau.
The operation was carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Mukah District Police Headquarters on 11 May 2026 at around 12.30 pm.
According to police, the suspects, aged between 32 and 46, were discovered inside a parked pickup truck during the raid.
Officers reported that one of the men attempted to dispose of an item by throwing it into nearby bushes upon noticing the police presence.
A subsequent search uncovered two transparent straw tubes containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, stored inside a cigarette box. The drugs seized weighed approximately 0.86 grams.
All five suspects were taken to the Mukah District Police Headquarters along with the confiscated items. Urine tests conducted later confirmed that each of the men tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Initial investigations revealed that the drugs belonged to the group.
Police confirmed that the suspects, who work as oil palm plantation labourers, have been remanded for four days until 16 May 2026 to assist with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties for possession of controlled substances.
Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal bin Alias stated that the arrests highlight the police’s determination to combat drug abuse in the district.
He stressed that enforcement efforts will continue to be intensified and urged the public to share any information related to drug activities with the authorities. Reports can be made through the police hotline or at the nearest police station.
