KUCHING – The Sarawak government has reaffirmed its appreciation for frontline workers by distributing 11,900 food packs to 11 uniformed agencies in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak 2026 celebration.
The contribution was extended to a wide range of enforcement and security agencies, including the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) and Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM).
Other recipients included the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Malaysian Prisons Department (JPM), Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Malaysian Volunteers Department (RELA) and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).
Sarawak Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, explained that each pack contained six types of items such as ready-to-eat meals, drum cakes, peanuts, kolok noodles and three-in-one coffee and tea. She said the initiative was designed to honour the dedication of frontline personnel during festive occasions.
“We hope that the packs shared with security personnel and uniformed bodies during the festive season will achieve the noble intentions of the Sarawak government. The Chinese New Year Contribution Pack, Hari Raya Aidilfitri Contribution and Gawai Contribution are also hoped to fuel the spirit to continue to serve to ensure the sovereignty of Sarawak, a safe, secure, prosperous and peaceful Sarawak,” she said during the symbolic handover ceremony at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Fatimah further revealed that the total number of food packs distributed across the three festive programmes this year amounted to 35,700.
She emphasised that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to recognising the sacrifices of frontline workers who continue to safeguard the state’s peace and security.
The contribution programme is part of Sarawak’s broader effort to strengthen community wellbeing and foster unity during festive seasons.
By extending support to frontline agencies, the government aims to boost morale and reinforce the importance of their role in maintaining public safety and order.
Officials noted that such initiatives not only provide material support but also symbolise the government’s gratitude for the tireless service of frontline workers.
The gesture is expected to encourage continued dedication among personnel while highlighting Sarawak’s commitment to inclusivity and appreciation across all communities.
