BETONG – The Betong District Police Headquarters (IPD) has stepped up its crime prevention measures with an integrated operation focusing on public safety and monitoring activities along key roads in the district.
The operation, held on 14 May 2026 from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, was commanded by Betong District Police Chief DSP Wan Mohamad Ali bin Wan Malek.
It involved multiple divisions including the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division (BPJKKD), Criminal Investigation Division (JSJ), Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJN), and Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT).
Officers from district police stations and personnel from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) also joined the effort.
A total of 19 police officers and personnel, including one senior officer, were mobilised alongside five JPJ members to ensure smooth execution of the operation.
The initiative aimed to curb street gang activities, reduce crimes such as vehicle theft, housebreaking and robbery, and strengthen police visibility in identified hotspots through an omnipresence approach.
During the two-hour operation, police conducted checks on 35 individuals, comprising 30 men and five women.
Inspections were also carried out on 30 vehicles, including motorcycles, cars, jeeps, multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), pickups and lorries.
As a result of the inspections, five summonses were issued for various offences. However, no arrests or seizures were recorded during the exercise.
Authorities reported that weather conditions were favourable and no untoward incidents occurred throughout the operation.
DSP Wan Mohamad Ali highlighted that such integrated operations will continue periodically as part of proactive measures to maintain public safety and order.
He noted that the presence of police officers in crime-prone areas is crucial in deterring criminal activities and reassuring the community.
The Betong IPD reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding residents by intensifying enforcement and strengthening collaboration with other agencies.
The operation reflects ongoing efforts to ensure that crime prevention strategies remain effective and responsive to local needs.
