KOTA SAMARAHAN – Construction of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) station at SM06 in Kota Samarahan is steadily advancing, marking another step in Sarawak’s efforts to modernise public transport across Greater Kuching.
The station, strategically positioned near Riveria and La Promenade shopping mall, is designed to serve as a key hub within the growing commercial and residential district.
Its location is expected to benefit thousands of commuters, offering convenient access to both retail and residential areas while easing traffic congestion in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Sarawak Metro, the agency overseeing the ART project, has highlighted that the SM06 station will be integrated with feeder bus services.
These buses will provide first and last mile connectivity, ensuring passengers can travel seamlessly between their homes, workplaces, and the ART network.
This approach is intended to make public transport more accessible and reliable, particularly for communities living further from the main transit line.
The ART system, which utilises trackless electric vehicles, is part of the state government’s broader initiative to reduce reliance on private cars and promote sustainable mobility.
By offering an efficient alternative, the project aims to cut down on carbon emissions and support Sarawak’s environmental goals.
Local residents and businesses have expressed optimism about the development, noting that improved transport links could boost economic activity in Kota Samarahan.
With Riveria and La Promenade already serving as popular destinations, the addition of a modern transit station is expected to attract more visitors and encourage investment in the area.
