BAU – The Bau District Council, working in collaboration with the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD), carried out a targeted operation on 19 May 2026 to dismantle illegal money lending advertisements across the district.
The enforcement exercise, known as Operation Vulture, focused on removing banners and posters promoting unlicensed money lending services.
A total of 82 banners were taken down from several key areas, including Siniawan, Bau Market, Jalan Datuk Salau, Jalan Jambusan, and Jalan Tasik Biru.
Authorities explained that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal financial activities that often exploit vulnerable communities.
Unlicensed money lending, commonly referred to as “Ah Long” practices, has long been associated with predatory interest rates and intimidation tactics.
By removing these advertisements, the council aims to reduce public exposure to such risks while maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the district.
The Bau District Council stressed that the presence of illegal banners not only promotes unlawful activity but also disrupts the visual harmony of public spaces.
Officials highlighted that maintaining a clean and safe environment is essential for community well-being and reflects the district’s commitment to orderly development.
Local residents have welcomed the initiative, noting that such advertisements often appear overnight and clutter public areas.
The removal of these banners is seen as a positive step in protecting the community from potential exploitation while preserving the district’s image.
The council reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that Bau remains free from illegal advertisements. Future operations are expected to continue, with authorities pledging to monitor and act against any recurrence of unlicensed money lending promotions.
This initiative also aligns with broader state-level efforts to combat illegal financial practices and safeguard communities.
By working closely with law enforcement, the Bau District Council is reinforcing its role in protecting residents and upholding public order.
Operation Vulture demonstrates a clear message: illegal money lending activities will not be tolerated, and steps will be taken to ensure that Bau remains a safe and harmonious district for its residents.
