LUNDU – Emergency responders from the Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully intervened to eliminate a hazardous insect infestation at a residential estate in the division.
The localised operation was launched following a distress call regarding a large wasp nest discovered on a private property.
The incident unfolded at a plantation site located within the vicinity of No. 1 Kampung Sekambal Melayu. Recognising the potential danger posed to nearby residents and agricultural workers, a concerned member of the public contacted local emergency channels to request immediate technical intervention.
The emergency report was formally logged by the Lundu District Operations Control Center (PKOD). In response to the alert, a specialised team of civil defence personnel was dispatched to the specified coordinates to evaluate the situation and neutralise the biological hazard.
Upon arriving at the scene, responders identified a mature colony of hornets, locally referred to as Naning wasps.
The insects had established a substantial nest high up within the branches of a jackfruit tree situated inside the complainant’s garden orchard, creating a safety hazard for anyone working nearby.
Equipped with protective gear, the civil defence personnel initiated eradication protocols using controlled thermal techniques.
The team managed to completely incinerate the nest structure, ensuring that the aggressive insects were neutralised and could no longer pose a stinging hazard to the neighbourhood.
Following the successful operation, the team conducted a thorough secondary sweep of the orchard to ensure no secondary swarms remained.
The entire intervention was executed without any injuries reported to the property owners or the responding emergency personnel.
The APM Lundu Sematan Public Relations and Documentation Unit highlighted that the mission reflects their core operational doctrine of acting with speed and professional integrity.
Representatives emphasised that domestic pest hazards, particularly aggressive stinging insects, should always be handled by trained professionals.
Public safety officials have reminded the community to remain cautious when encountering large insect colonies on their land.
Residents are strongly advised against attempting to dislodge or burn dangerous nests independently and should instead utilise the national emergency hotline by dialling 999 to connect with the police, fire department, hospital, or civil defence units.
