KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has intensified its enforcement efforts in Kuching, targeting luxury vehicles found to be in breach of road regulations.
On Thursday, the JPJ Kuching Operations Unit carried out patrols under Ops Luxury, focusing on high-end vehicles within the city. During the exercise, two cars – a Toyota Alphard and a Toyota Lexus RX200T – were stopped and inspected.
Further checks revealed that both vehicles were operating with expired motor vehicle licences (LKM) and lapsed insurance coverage. JPJ officers subsequently seized the vehicles in accordance with current legal provisions.
The department emphasised that road safety laws apply equally to all motorists, regardless of the type or status of their vehicles.
“Let being stylish on the road be in line with discipline and responsibility. The status or type of vehicle is not an excuse to ignore road safety. Be a road user who obeys and respects the law,” JPJ stated.
Luxury vehicles are often associated with prestige and comfort, but JPJ highlighted that compliance with road regulations is non-negotiable.
Expired licences and insurance not only breach the law but also expose drivers and other road users to significant risks in the event of accidents.
JPJ Sarawak has reiterated its commitment to strengthening enforcement operations across the state. Officials stressed that no category of vehicle will be exempt from checks, and violations will be dealt with firmly.
The department has pledged to continue monitoring road users to ensure compliance and to uphold public safety.
Ops Luxury forms part of JPJ’s broader strategy to maintain discipline among motorists and to remind vehicle owners that roadworthiness and legal documentation are essential responsibilities.
The department has also encouraged drivers to regularly review their licence and insurance status to avoid penalties and ensure safer journeys.
