MINA – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi and their entourage, safely arrived in Mina on 27 May to continue their Hajj pilgrimage.
The group’s arrival marks a significant stage in the annual pilgrimage, as millions of Muslims gather in Mina to perform the ritual of throwing stones at the Jamrah A’qabah.
This act, carried out on the 10th of Zulhijjah, is one of the obligatory pillars of Hajj and symbolises the rejection of evil.
Later in the evening, Tun Pehin Sri and his entourage were scheduled to undertake the ritual, joining fellow pilgrims in fulfilling this essential requirement of the pilgrimage.
The throwing of the Jamrah A’qabah is regarded as a deeply spiritual moment, reflecting obedience and devotion to Allah SWT.
During his time in Mina, Tun Pehin Sri also visited the accommodation tents to check on the welfare of his entourage and other pilgrims.
His presence was seen as a gesture of care and solidarity, ensuring that those under his guidance were comfortable and well-supported throughout the demanding journey.
He expressed concern for the health and safety of the pilgrims, emphasising his hope that all worshippers would remain in good condition and that their acts of devotion would be carried out smoothly.
His words highlighted the importance of compassion and unity among pilgrims, reinforcing the collective spirit of the Hajj.
The atmosphere in Mina was filled with anticipation as pilgrims prepared for the ritual, which is followed by other key rites, including the sacrifice and the shaving or cutting of hair.
These acts mark the completion of major obligations of the pilgrimage, paving the way for the final stages in Mecca.
The governor’s participation in these rituals reflects the shared experience of Muslims worldwide, who gather in the Holy Land each year to fulfil the fifth pillar of Islam.
His presence alongside ordinary pilgrims underscores the universality of the Hajj, where all stand equal before God.
As the journey continues, pilgrims will proceed with further rites, including tawaf and saie in Mecca, completing the sequence of worship that defines the Hajj.
The Governor’s commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of his entourage serves as a reminder of the values of leadership, humility, and service during this sacred occasion.
