KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, has safely returned to Kuching following the completion of his Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
He was accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, with their arrival warmly received at Kuching International Airport on 5 June.
The couple’s return was marked by a welcoming ceremony attended by senior state leaders and religious figures.
Among those present were Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare Datuk Hajah Rosey Yunus.
Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land and Environment Administration Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Attorney General of Sarawak Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Council Datuk Haji Misnu Taha, Mufti of Sarawak Datu Haji Khalidi Ibrahim, and Chief Syarie Judge of Sarawak YAA Datu Haji Awang Suhaili Ledi.
Heads of government departments and other dignitaries joined the gathering, reflecting the significance of the occasion.
The ceremony began with a prayer of thanksgiving led by Deputy Grand Imam of Sarawak, Ustaz Haji Mohd Ihsan Haidzir.
The prayer expressed gratitude for the safe journey of the Governor and his wife, who had fulfilled the fifth pillar of Islam during their pilgrimage.
Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi conveyed his appreciation to Allah SWT for granting him the opportunity to perform the Hajj.
He also extended his thanks to the state leadership, government officials, and community representatives who came to welcome him and his wife back to Sarawak.
In his remarks, the Governor prayed for continued peace, prosperity, and blessings for Sarawak and its people.
He emphasised the importance of unity and harmony, noting that the state’s progress depends on collective effort and shared values.
The return of the Governor and his wife from the Holy Land is seen as a moment of spiritual significance for Sarawak, reinforcing the role of faith in guiding leadership and community life.
The event also highlighted the strong ties between the state’s political leadership and religious institutions, underscoring the importance of collaboration in maintaining social cohesion.
Observers noted that the presence of senior officials and religious leaders at the airport demonstrated the respect and esteem held for the Governor.
The occasion served not only as a personal milestone for Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Fauziah but also as a reminder of the enduring role of faith in Sarawak’s governance and community spirit.
