SIBU – Firefighters from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) successfully carried out a special service operation to remove a snake from a residential property along Bat 22 Jalan Sibu-Bintulu, near Nirvana, on 6 June 2026.
The incident was reported at a local home where a sawa snake was discovered behind an ice box in the kitchen.
The operation was led by PBK II (TBBK I) Alexander, who commanded a team of four personnel from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station. The team travelled approximately 24 kilometres to reach the location.
Upon arrival, the operation commander conducted a size-up assessment before directing members to wear full personal protective equipment. Using a snake clipper, the team carefully captured the reptile without causing harm.
Once secured, the snake was released at a safe distance away from residential areas to prevent further risk to the community.
The operation involved the LFRT Atego vehicle (BJU 6191) and was supported by PBK II (TBBK I) Shaufik as driver, alongside PBB Aziz, PBB Syamsu and PBB Kelvin. Their coordinated effort ensured the safety of both the residents and the firefighters.
Authorities emphasised that such operations are part of Bomba’s commitment to public safety, responding swiftly to wildlife encounters that pose potential danger.
Snake-catching incidents are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in areas close to forest reserves and plantations, where reptiles often wander into human settlements.
Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and to contact emergency services immediately if they encounter snakes or other dangerous wildlife in their homes.
Fire and Rescue teams are trained to handle these situations professionally, ensuring both human safety and humane treatment of the animals involved.
The successful conclusion of the operation reflects the department’s dedication to high performance, fast response and friendly service.
Community members expressed gratitude for the swift action taken, which prevented possible harm and restored peace of mind to the household.
