KUCHING, June 9 – Two luxury vehicles were seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak during a special enforcement operation known as Ops Luxury conducted around Kuching city on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out by the JPJ Kuching Operations Unit as part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with road transport regulations and to promote road safety among all motorists.
During a static enforcement exercise along Jalan Sherip Masahor, enforcement officers stopped two luxury vehicles, identified as a Toyota Alphard and a Mercedes GLC 200, for inspection. Further checks revealed that both vehicles had expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and insurance coverage.
Following the discovery, JPJ officers took enforcement action by seizing both vehicles in accordance with the provisions of the law currently in force.
JPJ Sarawak stressed that ownership of a luxury or high-value vehicle does not exempt motorists from complying with road regulations. The department reminded vehicle owners that the status, brand, or market value of a vehicle does not override the responsibility of ensuring that all required documents remain valid and are renewed within the prescribed period.
According to JPJ, valid road tax and insurance coverage are essential requirements for every vehicle operating on public roads. Failure to maintain these documents not only constitutes an offence under the law but may also expose vehicle owners and other road users to risks in the event of an accident or unforeseen incident.
The department also highlighted that insurance protection plays an important role in safeguarding vehicle owners and third parties against financial losses resulting from road accidents. Driving without valid insurance may leave motorists vulnerable to legal and financial consequences.
JPJ Sarawak urged all vehicle owners to regularly check the status of their Motor Vehicle Licence and insurance coverage before using their vehicles on the road. Motorists are encouraged to renew the necessary documents promptly to avoid enforcement action and ensure continuous legal compliance.
The latest operation reflects JPJ Sarawak’s commitment to strengthening enforcement activities across the state. Through continuous monitoring and inspections, the department aims to improve compliance with road transport laws and maintain a safer road environment for all users.
