KUCHING – His Excellency the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with Her Excellency Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from the newly appointed Commander of the 1st Malaysian Infantry Division, Major General Mohd Sobirin bin Mohd Yusof, and his wife, Puan Noor Hamiza binti Suhaimi, at the Astana Negeri Sarawak on Tuesday.
The visit marked Major General Mohd Sobirin’s formal introduction following his appointment to lead the division based at Muara Tuang Camp, Kota Samarahan.
Brigadier General Dato Jafri bin Sulaiman, Commander of the 9th Brigade, and his wife, Datin Mastura binti Mahmud, were also present during the session.
The meeting, which lasted close to an hour, provided an opportunity to discuss matters of state and national security.
Among the topics raised were current developments along Sarawak’s border, the role of the Malaysian Armed Forces in maintaining peace and stability, and the increasingly complex challenges posed by regional and global security dynamics.
Discussions also touched on strengthening the national defence industry, including the potential to produce local defence assets such as drones, ammunition and military equipment.
The welfare of military personnel, national issues and international geopolitical developments were also highlighted as part of the dialogue.
Tun Pehin Sri expressed appreciation for the professionalism and readiness of the 1st Division personnel in safeguarding Sarawak’s sovereignty.
He commended their commitment to duty and stressed the importance of maintaining high standards of preparedness in the face of evolving threats.
The Governor and Toh Puan extended their prayers for Major General Mohd Sobirin’s success in leading the division.
They hoped his leadership would continue to strengthen the division’s excellence and contribute to the security and well-being of the nation and its people.
The courtesy visit underscored the close relationship between the state leadership and the armed forces, reflecting a shared commitment to ensuring Sarawak’s stability and resilience in a changing security environment.
