KUCHING – Residents of Kuching will have the opportunity to benefit from free and affordable health services this weekend, as Kuching South City Council (MBKS) collaborates with Borneo Medical Centre to host a community health programme at Kenyalang Park Market.
The event, scheduled for Sunday, 14 June 2026, will run from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. It is designed to bring healthcare closer to the community, particularly senior citizens, hawkers, market stall owners, and workers who may otherwise find it difficult to access routine medical checks.
Among the services offered are free screenings for blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. The first 200 attendees will also receive a complimentary Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
For those seeking more detailed insights into their health, an InBody body composition analysis will be available at a nominal fee of RM10.
This service includes a professional interpretation by a registered dietitian, offering participants valuable guidance at a fraction of the usual cost.
Additional services include free physiotherapy consultations, where attendees can learn simple stretching and strengthening exercises to improve mobility and reduce the risk of injury.
Home care services will also be introduced, aimed at families caring for elderly relatives, individuals recovering from illness, or those requiring special assistance.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised the importance of preventive healthcare, noting that many chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease often show no early symptoms.
He encouraged residents to take advantage of the programme, highlighting that a simple check-up could make a significant difference to long-term wellbeing.
The initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
It reflects MBKS’s broader vision of creating a senior-friendly city and fostering healthier lifestyles among its residents.
Organisers stressed that no registration is required, and participants are welcome to attend with family members and neighbours.
The programme is expected to draw strong participation, reinforcing the council’s commitment to community health and wellbeing.
By partnering with Borneo Medical Centre, MBKS aims to ensure that healthcare services are accessible, affordable, and inclusive, particularly for groups who may otherwise be overlooked.
The event is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community resilience and promote a healthier Kuching.
