SELANGAU – A groundbreaking ceremony was held on 12 June 2026 to mark the official commencement of construction for the new Selangau District Education Office.
The event symbolised the start of the project and included traditional rituals by the local community to seek blessings for safety and smooth progress throughout the implementation period.
The ceremony began with a briefing delivered by Yang Berusaha Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. QPr. Chieng Siong Ming, Divisional Engineer of JKR Sibu Division.
He outlined the background of the project, its scope, construction timeline, and current developments to the guests of honour.
The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Ir. Christopher Gira anak Sambang, State Assemblyman for N.59 Tamin and youth leader of the Sarawak Party (PRS).
In his opening address, he expressed appreciation to all parties involved in realising the project, particularly the Sarawak Public Works Department and its Sibu Division team, for their commitment and continuous efforts in delivering infrastructure development in Selangau.
Christopher Gira highlighted that the new education office will provide improved facilities for administrative staff, supporting the delivery of quality education services in the district.
He stressed that such projects are vital in enhancing the well-being and convenience of the local community, while also strengthening the government’s commitment to rural development.
The construction of the Selangau District Education Office is part of wider initiatives to modernise infrastructure across Sarawak, ensuring that communities in smaller districts benefit from facilities that meet current needs.
Officials noted that the project will serve as a central hub for education administration, improving efficiency and accessibility for schools in the area.
The ceremony reflected both cultural traditions and modern development priorities, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in infrastructure projects.
