KUCHING – Thirty-seven foreign nationals were detained during a large-scale immigration enforcement operation conducted across Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Lundu between 11 and 12 June 2026.
The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Sarawak confirmed that the two-day exercise, coordinated by the Kuching Enforcement Division, involved multiple operations under the codenames Ops Selera, Ops Minyak, Ops Sapu, Ops Mahir and Ops Gegar.
Officers carried out inspections from morning until the early hours of the following day, targeting areas identified as hotspots for foreign workers.
Checks were conducted at 13 locations, including eateries, rental premises, car wash outlets, factories, entertainment centres and online gambling sites.
The areas covered ranged from Kota Sentosa and Bintawa to Bandar Baru Semariang, Tabuan Jaya, Kota Samarahan, Pekan Lundu and Pending.
Out of 122 individuals screened, 37 foreigners were arrested for suspected breaches of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
Offences included overstaying under Section 15(1)(c) and failing to hold valid passes or travel documents under Section 6(1)(c).
Authorities stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration and ensure compliance with national laws.
The department reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement activities, particularly in areas where foreign workers are concentrated.
The Immigration Department also urged members of the public to assist by reporting suspicious activities or individuals believed to be violating immigration regulations.
Community cooperation, officials stressed, is vital in supporting enforcement and safeguarding public order.
Immigration raids such as these are regularly carried out across Sarawak to address concerns about undocumented workers and related issues.
The department has emphasised that while legitimate foreign workers contribute to the economy, those without proper documentation pose risks to both security and labour regulation.
The latest operation highlights the government’s determination to uphold immigration laws and maintain oversight of foreign nationals residing in the state.
It also reflects broader national efforts to strengthen border control and ensure that all individuals living and working in Malaysia comply with legal requirements.
