SEMATAN – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Sematan successfully removed a honeybee nest from a tree branch near a community hall on Thursday, 18 June 2026, following a public complaint.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that it received an emergency call from a resident who reported the presence of the honeybee colony.
Concerned about the safety of people in the area, the complainant requested assistance from APM officers to monitor and destroy the nest.
Upon arrival, the Civil Defence team conducted a safety inspection of the site. The honeybee nest was found attached to a tree branch close to the hall, raising concerns about potential stings to residents and visitors.
Using insecticide spray methods, the officers neutralised the colony and ensured the area was safe before declaring the operation complete.
The intervention was carried out with caution and in line with established safety procedures. No injuries or property damage was reported during the operation. Authorities confirmed that the site was secure and posed no further risk to the public.
Honeybees, while vital to pollination and agriculture, can become dangerous when nesting near populated areas. Their stings can cause severe pain and, in some cases, allergic reactions.
Emergency services across Sarawak have repeatedly emphasised the importance of reporting such cases promptly rather than attempting removal without professional assistance.
The Civil Defence Force highlighted that community vigilance remains essential in preventing accidents. Residents are urged to contact local emergency services if they encounter similar threats.
Trained personnel are equipped with protective gear and safe handling techniques to manage insect-related hazards effectively.
This latest case in Sematan reflects the readiness of Sarawak’s emergency teams to respond to wildlife-related incidents.
The Civil Defence Force reiterated its commitment to community safety, stressing that its officers are prepared to act quickly and with integrity whenever threats arise.
For emergencies in Lundu and Sematan, the public can contact the Civil Defence Force directly at 082-711292 or dial 999.

The successful removal of the honeybee nest demonstrates the importance of vigilance and cooperation between the public and authorities.
It also reflects the professionalism of Sarawak’s emergency teams, who remain dedicated to protecting communities from environmental and safety threats.
