SEMATAN – The Sematan District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received an emergency call on 21 June 2026 regarding a wasp nest located at the entrance of a residence.
The complainant requested immediate assistance from the Civil Defence Force (APM) Sematan to remove the threat.
Responding swiftly, APM Sematan deployed personnel to the site to carry out the Destroying Insect Nests (MSS) operation.
The team successfully neutralised the nest, ensuring the safety of the household and preventing potential harm to residents.
The operation reflects the readiness and efficiency of APM Sematan in handling public safety concerns. Their motto, “Ready, Fast & Integrity”, was demonstrated in the rapid response and professional conduct of the officers involved.
Officials highlighted that wasp nests, particularly those located near entryways, pose a serious risk to residents.
Wasp stings can cause severe allergic reactions in some individuals, making timely intervention crucial. The Civil Defence Force continues to remind the public to report such cases promptly rather than attempting to remove nests themselves, which could result in injury.
The APM Lundu Sematan Public Relations and Documentation Unit confirmed that the case was resolved without incident.
They also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and to contact the district operations centre for any emergency involving dangerous insects or other hazards.
Community members are advised to use the official emergency hotline at 082711292 for immediate assistance.
The Civil Defence Force has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding local communities by responding quickly to calls and maintaining operational integrity.
This incident underscores the importance of community cooperation with emergency services in Sarawak. By reporting hazards early, residents help ensure that risks are managed effectively and that public safety remains a top priority.
