LAWAS – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Lawas District responded to an emergency call on 20 June 2025 after a python was discovered inside a chicken coop in Kampung Dato’ Kuala Lawas.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the report, prompting the mobilisation of the My Aspa-O 02 team.
Upon arrival, three members found a batik python measuring approximately 3.5 feet in length. The reptile had already swallowed a chicken, raising immediate concerns for the safety of residents and livestock.
Using the pinning technique, the team successfully captured the snake without incident. The operation was carried out with precision to ensure no harm to the residents, property, or the animal itself.
After the operation, the python was removed from the residential area to eliminate further risk. All three members of the My Aspa-O 02 team returned safely to PKOD Lawas, with equipment reported to be in good condition.
Officials emphasised that encounters with snakes are common in rural areas and can pose serious risks. The Civil Defence Force reminded the public not to attempt capturing snakes or other wildlife themselves, as such actions can be dangerous.
Instead, residents are urged to contact authorities immediately for professional intervention. APM Lawas reaffirmed its commitment to public safety under its guiding principle of “Ready Fast with Integrity”.
Their swift response reassured the community and demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated emergency action in Sarawak.
For emergencies, residents can contact PKOD Lawas directly at 085-262073 or dial 999.
This latest incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with emergency services.
By reporting hazards promptly, residents help ensure that risks are managed effectively and that public safety remains a top priority.
