Additional pier caps are scheduled for installation in the coming days, signalling steady progress on the Red Line of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS).

The elevated SR08 ART station, currently being built at the road median, is set to serve one of Kuching’s busiest areas.

The location is surrounded by commercial centres, eateries, banks, residential neighbourhoods, a shopping mall, and government offices, making it a strategic hub for commuters.

Once operational, the station will be integrated with feeder bus services, ensuring seamless first and last-mile connectivity.

This integration is expected to provide greater convenience for residents and visitors travelling within Kuching city, reducing reliance on private vehicles and easing traffic congestion.

Sarawak Metro, the agency overseeing the project, has emphasised that the ART system is part of a broader effort to create a greener and more sustainable public transport network.

The Red Line, which runs through key urban corridors, is designed to improve mobility while supporting Sarawak’s environmental goals.

The ART system itself represents a modern approach to urban transport. Using electric-powered vehicles guided by dedicated tracks, it aims to deliver efficient, low-emission travel.

The elevated guideway along Jalan Tun Jugah is a critical component of this plan, ensuring smoother traffic flow and minimising disruption to existing road users.

Local businesses and residents have been asked for patience as construction continues. Authorities have assured that every effort is being made to minimise inconvenience while maintaining safety standards at the work sites.

The long-term benefits, they stress, will outweigh the temporary disruptions. Public transport experts note that the integration of ART with feeder buses is vital to the system’s success.

By connecting residential areas with commercial and administrative centres, the network will provide a reliable alternative to private cars.

This is expected to encourage more people to adopt public transport, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and improved urban living standards.

The Jalan Tun Jugah section is one of several ongoing works along the Red Line, which will eventually link multiple districts across Kuching.

As construction milestones are achieved, Sarawak Metro continues to highlight its commitment to delivering a modern, sustainable transport solution for the city’s growing population.
