VILNIUS – Sarawak has taken another step towards global digital integration by entering into a strategic partnership with Lithuania to advance artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security and digital infrastructure.
The collaboration is part of Sarawak’s Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, aimed at positioning the state as a regional digital hub.
The Sarawak delegation, led by Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Secretary of the Sarawak Economic Planning and Development Council, visited Vilnius to explore opportunities in technology development and smart systems.
The team was introduced to Lithuania’s AI-based traffic management system, which uses smart cameras to monitor intersections in real time, enhancing safety and efficiency.
Discussions also covered Lithuania’s transport safety systems, designed to identify operational issues and improve user services.
The delegation noted that such innovations could be adapted to Sarawak’s own infrastructure, supporting smarter urban management and improved quality of life.
Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah emphasised that Sarawak’s initiative is focused on encouraging leaders to adopt innovative technologies that stimulate economic growth and enhance public services.
He highlighted that AI and digital transformation are central to Sarawak’s ambition of becoming a competitive player in the global digital economy.
The delegation also met with Lithuanian officials, including Chancellor Justas Pankauskas from the Ministry of Defence, Lina Viltrakienė from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Vydūnas Trapinskas, Assistant to the Defence Minister.
The talks centred on strengthening cooperation in AI development, cyber security and power infrastructure.
Lithuania’s expertise in human-centric AI was showcased during the visit, with officials expressing interest in collaborating with Sarawak on projects that prioritise user-focused digital solutions.
Both sides agreed to explore the use of AI data platforms to support digital initiatives and adapt emerging technologies to meet evolving needs.
Sarawak’s leaders believe that the partnership will help establish the state as a digital hub in Southeast Asia, with potential links to the European Union’s digital embassy framework.
The collaboration is expected to open new avenues for knowledge exchange, investment and innovation, reinforcing Sarawak’s transformation agenda under PCDS 2030.
By engaging with Lithuania, Sarawak is not only strengthening its international ties but also ensuring that its digital economy strategy is aligned with global standards.
The partnership underscores the state’s commitment to harnessing technology for sustainable growth and improved governance.
