Sarawak Governor Hosts Ukrainian Ambassador in Diplomatic Visit

KUCHING – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, welcomed the Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr Hennadii Nadolenko, during a courtesy visit at the Sarawak State Astana on 7 July 2026.

This marked the first official visit by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Sarawak, signalling a step towards strengthening diplomatic ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation between the state and Ukraine.

The meeting lasted nearly an hour and was conducted in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. Discussions centred on opportunities for collaboration in advanced technology sectors, particularly drone innovation and information technology.

Both leaders highlighted the potential for investment and market expansion that could benefit Sarawak and Ukraine alike.

Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi also outlined Sarawak’s long-term aspirations to position itself as a regional hub for green energy and food security.

He emphasised the state’s commitment to sustainable development and its role in supporting Malaysia’s wider food supply chain.

Agriculture was another key area of dialogue, with both parties exchanging views on cooperation in palm oil, palm-based products, grains, and food supply.

The leaders agreed that closer collaboration in these sectors could enhance trade and contribute to mutual economic growth.

Efforts to strengthen communication networks between Sarawak’s entrepreneurs and Ukrainian enterprises were also discussed.

The aim is to establish more structured and direct trade relations, enabling businesses from both sides to benefit from smoother exchanges and stronger partnerships.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment to building bridges of understanding and expanding cooperation.

Tun Pehin Sri expressed hope that this initial engagement would pave the way for broader collaboration in the future, reinforcing Sarawak’s role in international diplomacy while opening new opportunities for Ukraine in the region.

The visit underscored the importance of fostering global partnerships at the state level, with Sarawak positioning itself as a proactive player in international relations.

Both sides agreed that continued dialogue and cooperation would bring tangible benefits to their respective communities.
