KUCHING – The Sarawak State Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, received a courtesy visit from renowned historian YBhg. Datu Dr Sanib Said at Astana Sarawak on 7 July 2026.
Datu Dr Sanib, who serves as General Manager of Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak, was accompanied by Mr Azuan Jemat during the visit.
The meeting began at 11.00 am and provided an opportunity to exchange views on Sarawak’s historical legacy and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
During the session, Datu Dr Sanib presented a copy of historical notes entitled Sri Sultan and Sultan Tengah’s Journey to a Mountain: Telling About the Relationship of the Seri Sultan with the Chief of the Ascetic World from Java. The transliteration of the text was prepared by Mr Azuan Jemat, adding scholarly value to the discussion.
The Governor emphasised the importance of documenting Sarawak’s history accurately, noting that younger generations must be able to understand the state’s past through factual and reliable accounts.
He stressed that history should serve as a guide, ensuring that Sarawak’s identity and heritage are preserved with integrity.
Tun Pehin Sri also highlighted the need for collaboration with various agencies, including universities and research institutions, to produce scholarly publications and educational programmes.
He suggested that such initiatives would help strengthen public awareness and appreciation of Sarawak’s historical heritage.
The meeting underscored the role of historians in shaping collective memory and fostering pride in Sarawak’s cultural identity.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to Datu Dr Sanib and Mr Azuan for their contributions, encouraging the historian community to continue advancing research and education in the field.
He further noted that inclusive and comprehensive historical studies are vital to reinforcing Sarawak’s self-respect and ensuring that its legacy remains relevant in a rapidly changing world.
The visit reflected a shared commitment to safeguarding Sarawak’s past while inspiring future generations to value their heritage.
