The charge was brought under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which covers offences related to assisting in the concealment of stolen property.

The case involved a gold chain that was among several items stolen during a burglary in Taman Tunku, Miri, on 4 May 2026.

According to reports, the victim discovered the theft at around 3.30am when an intruder broke into the house through the kitchen window.

The handbag belonging to the victim was taken, containing identification documents and multiple pieces of jewellery, including a gold chain, two gold bracelets, two gold rings, and a child’s gold bracelet.

Following investigations, the accused was found to have aided in concealing one of the stolen items and was subsequently charged. His guilty plea led to the sentencing delivered by the Magistrates’ Court on 6 July 2026.

The Miri District Police Chief emphasised that strict enforcement will continue against individuals involved in criminal activities, reiterating that offenders will face firm legal consequences. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the police.
