The incident raised concerns among the household, as the presence of the snake posed a potential threat to both pets and residents.

Upon receiving the report, APM personnel were immediately dispatched to the location to conduct an inspection and initiate a safe capture operation. On arrival, the team confirmed the python was confined within the cat cage.

Using specialised equipment and applying safe reptile-handling techniques, the officers managed to secure the snake without causing harm to the animal or the surrounding environment.

The operation was completed smoothly, with no untoward incidents reported. Following the successful capture, the batik python was removed from the residential area for further action in line with established procedures.

Authorities emphasised that such measures are necessary to ensure both public safety and the welfare of wildlife. The area was declared safe before the team concluded the operation.

Residents were advised to maintain clean surroundings and to close off potential entry points that could allow wild animals to access homes.

Officials highlighted that snakes and other reptiles often seek shelter in residential areas when attracted by food sources or unsecured spaces.

Preventive measures, such as proper waste management and securing pet enclosures, can reduce the likelihood of similar encounters.

Wildlife incidents in Sarawak have become increasingly common as urban expansion overlaps with natural habitats.

Experts note that while pythons are non-venomous, their size and strength can pose risks to small animals and, in rare cases, humans. Professional intervention is therefore essential to ensure safe outcomes.

The APM continues to remind the public not to attempt handling snakes or other dangerous wildlife without proper training. Instead, residents should immediately contact the relevant authorities for assistance.

This approach not only protects individuals but also ensures that animals are managed humanely and relocated appropriately.

The Debak operation reflects APM’s ongoing commitment to community safety and readiness in responding to diverse emergencies.

Their swift and effective handling of the python incident reinforces public confidence in the agency’s ability to safeguard neighbourhoods across Sarawak.
