KUCHING: Discovery of Deceased First-Year Student Raises Questions
KOTA SAMARAHAN – The tranquil surroundings of a public university campus in Kota Samarahan were disrupted today by the grim discovery of a man’s body floating in the campus lake. The incident, reported early this morning, has left authorities and campus residents shocked and seeking answers.
District Police Chief DSP Jaimi Husin confirmed receiving the report at 8.34am, prompting an immediate response from investigative teams. The deceased, identified as a 20-year-old first-year student of the university, was found fully clothed with no apparent signs of foul play upon initial examination.
In a statement to the press, DSP Jaimi Husin stated, “Our investigation at the scene did not uncover any evidence of criminal activity surrounding the body.” He further elaborated that concerns were raised after the victim, last seen on Friday, was reported missing from the university dormitories.
“The family positively identified the body as the missing student,” DSP Jaimi Husin added. “The body has been transferred to Sarawak General Hospital for further examination.”
Authorities have classified the case as a sudden death pending the results of the autopsy. The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak assisted in retrieving the body from the lake, under the supervision of local police and health officials.
“The efforts to recover the victim were conducted with utmost care and respect,” commented a spokesperson from JBPM Sarawak. “We await confirmation of cause of death from the Ministry of Health (KKM).”
