MBKS Unveils 40th Kuching Festival Programme Calendar

KUCHING – The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has officially launched the programme calendar for the 2026 Kuching Festival, unveiling 29 events scheduled to run from 22 July to 16 August.

Mayor of Kuching South, Dato Wee Hong Seng, announced that this year’s festival carries the theme “Building a Compassionate and Resilient City for a Sustainable Future.” He explained that the theme reflects MBKS’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, sustainability, and community participation, ensuring that “No One Left Behind.”

The 2026 edition is particularly significant as it marks the 40th anniversary of the Kuching Festival. Since its inception, the festival has grown into one of Malaysia’s most iconic city celebrations, showcasing Kuching’s multicultural heritage, culinary diversity, artistic creativity, and strong community spirit.

Dato Wee highlighted that the programmes have been carefully curated to appeal to a wide audience. Activities will span sports, arts and culture, gastronomy, family-friendly events, international friendship initiatives, and community-based programmes.

He encouraged residents and visitors alike to take part, noting that the festival is designed to bring people together while celebrating Kuching’s identity as a vibrant and compassionate city.

The Mayor emphasised that the festival is more than just entertainment; it is a platform for strengthening community bonds and promoting sustainable urban development. He noted that MBKS continues to prioritise initiatives that build resilience and inclusivity, aligning with broader goals of creating a city where everyone has opportunities to thrive.
