The incident occurred on 14 July 2026, with the emergency call received at approximately 7.40pm. The fire was located just two kilometres from the station, allowing the Bravo Team to reach the site swiftly. Upon arrival, the operation commander, PBK II TBBK I Alexander, conducted an immediate assessment and confirmed the presence of a fire breakdown as reported by the complainant.

The team deployed LFRT Atego (BJU 6191) as the primary vehicle for the operation. Under Alexander’s direction, members utilised a 300-foot forest hose fitted with a single nozzle, supported by the engine pump and water supply from the vehicle’s tank. The burning area was estimated to cover about one acre.

The firefighting team comprised PBK II (TBBK I) Alexander as supervisor, PBK II (TBBK I) Robin as driver, PBK II (TBBK I) Shaufik, PBB Syamsu, PBB Aziz, and PBB Kelvin. Together, they worked systematically to suppress the flames until the situation was fully under control.

Once the fire was extinguished and the surrounding environment deemed safe, the team reported back to the station. No casualties or property damage were recorded, and the swift intervention was credited with preventing further escalation.

Bushfires and roadside fires remain a recurring challenge in Sarawak, particularly during dry conditions when vegetation becomes highly combustible. Authorities have consistently reminded the public to avoid open burning and to report any signs of fire immediately to ensure rapid response.

The SibuJaya operation underscores the importance of preparedness and teamwork in emergency situations. Fire and Rescue Department officials have highlighted that early detection and prompt reporting are critical in reducing the risk of fires spreading to residential or agricultural areas.

Sarawak has witnessed several similar incidents in recent months, with fire crews across districts responding to bushfires and grassfires in both rural and urban settings. These operations often involve difficult terrain and limited water sources, requiring manual suppression tools and tactical coordination.

Beyond immediate firefighting, the department continues to run awareness campaigns aimed at educating communities on fire safety. These initiatives include guidance on safe land-clearing practices, demonstrations of firefighting equipment, and advice on emergency reporting procedures.

Residents in Sibu have expressed appreciation for the professionalism and efficiency of the Bravo Team. The incident reinforced public confidence in the readiness of local fire crews, who continue to operate under demanding conditions to safeguard lives and property.

While the fire along the SibuJaya By-Pass Road was contained quickly, it serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by uncontrolled fires. With dry weather expected to persist, authorities are urging communities to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing similar outbreaks.

The successful containment of the blaze highlights the broader importance of coordinated emergency response and community cooperation. Firefighters rely heavily on timely information from residents, and public awareness remains a vital line of defence against bushfires.

As Sarawak continues to balance development with environmental protection, the role of local communities in maintaining safety cannot be overstated. The SibuJaya incident stands as an example of how swift action and collective responsibility can prevent minor fires from becoming major disasters.
