LUBOK ANTU – Police in Lubok Antu arrested two men in the Batang Ai Ili area of Engkilili on Wednesday evening, 15 July 2026, following suspicions of drug involvement.
The suspects, aged 25 and 31, were detained during an operation led by the Lubok Antu District Commercial Crime Investigation Division. Subsequent urine screening tests revealed both men were positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Authorities confirmed that one of the suspects has a prior criminal record linked to drug offences, raising concerns about repeated involvement in narcotics-related activities. The case is currently being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for penalties against individuals found guilty of consuming or possessing prohibited substances.
Lubok Antu District Police Chief, DSP Pricha Azin, emphasised that operations targeting drug abuse and distribution are ongoing across the district. He stressed that enforcement efforts are being intensified to maintain public order and safeguard community wellbeing.
Police have urged residents to play an active role in supporting these initiatives by reporting any suspicious activities related to drug distribution or abuse. Information provided by the public is considered vital in helping authorities dismantle networks and prevent the spread of narcotics in local communities.
Drug abuse remains a pressing issue across Sarawak, with police conducting regular operations in both rural and urban areas. The arrests in Engkilili highlight the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling narcotics, particularly in areas where distribution networks attempt to exploit vulnerable communities.
Authorities continue to remind the public of the dangers associated with drug use, including health risks, social disruption, and criminal consequences. Awareness campaigns have been launched to educate communities about the impact of narcotics and to encourage preventive measures.
The Lubok Antu operation reflects the broader commitment of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to combat drug-related offences. By apprehending suspects and pursuing investigations under the Dangerous Drugs Act, police aim to reduce the prevalence of narcotics and strengthen community safety.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and to cooperate with enforcement agencies. The arrests serve as a reminder that drug-related activities will not be tolerated and that offenders will face legal consequences.
As Sarawak continues to develop, the role of law enforcement in maintaining safety and order remains crucial. The Engkilili arrests demonstrate the proactive stance taken by police in addressing drug abuse and protecting communities from its harmful effects.
