KUCHING – The Sarawak State Education Department officially appointed Mr Lau Ngie Tung as the new Sibu District Education Officer (PPD) during a Placement Instruction Letter Handover Ceremony held on Monday, 13 July 2026.
The ceremony, officiated by Sarawak Director of Education, Mr Omar bin Haji Mahli, symbolised the trust placed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia in Mr Lau to lead the Sibu District Education Office. His appointment is expected to strengthen educational excellence and drive the transformation agenda in the district.
Mr Omar expressed his appreciation for Mr Lau’s dedication and contributions during his tenure as Sarikei District Education Officer. He noted that Mr Lau’s experience, leadership, and commitment will continue to benefit the education sector in Sibu, in line with the aspirations of the Malaysia Education Development Plan (RPM) 2026–2035.
The Director also highlighted the importance of adopting a proactive, persuasive, and productive work culture within the Sarawak State Education Department. He emphasised that education leadership must remain focused on producing a knowledgeable, skilled, and competitive generation to meet the challenges of the future.
