KUALA KEDAH – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) has issued a stern advisory to the public regarding unverified reports circulating on social media.
Recent viral messages have alleged that several boats are attempting to smuggle undocumented immigrants, specifically from the Rohingya community, through the coastal areas of Kuala Muda, Kuala Kedah, Yan, and Penang. Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from spreading such unconfirmed information.
First Admiral Romli bin Mustafa, the State Maritime Director for Kedah and Perlis, addressed the matter by emphasising the potential harm caused by misinformation.
He noted that the rapid dissemination of unverified claims can generate unnecessary anxiety within communities.
More critically, it risks disrupting ongoing intelligence operations and enforcement efforts conducted by security agencies.
“Every piece of information received will be assessed, reviewed and verified first before any action is taken. The public is requested to obtain information from official sources and not spread allegations whose validity has not been confirmed, as it can cause confusion and concern among the public,” First Admiral Romli stated.
The director assured the public that Maritime Malaysia treats all threats to national sovereignty and water security with utmost seriousness.
