KUCHING – The state’s highest-ranking official has returned to the capital following a two-day engagement in central Sarawak, marking the conclusion of this year’s commemorative events for Sarawak Day.
His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, touched down at the Hornbill Skyways Terminal on the afternoon of Thursday, 23 July 2026.
Accompanying the governor was his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi. Their arrival signalled the end of an extensive schedule in Sibu, where they had been present to officiate and participate in the 2026 Sarawak Day festivities.
The celebrations were held in conjunction with the historic date of 22 July, which marks the anniversary of the state’s self-governance.
Upon disembarking, the distinguished couple was received by senior administrative staff from the Office of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak.
The welcoming party ensured a smooth transition from the aircraft to ground transport, reflecting the formal protocols observed during such state visits.
Joining the Governor and Toh Puan on their return journey were key members of the state cabinet. Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, travelled back with his spouse, Yang Berbahagia Datin Sri Hajah Zuraini binti Abdul Jaabar.
