KUCHING: AirBorneo Airways has marked this year’s Sarawak Day celebration by launching its first international flight route, connecting Kuching with Singapore. The milestone marks a new chapter for the Sarawak government-owned airline as it expands beyond domestic operations and strengthens the state’s regional air connectivity.
The inaugural international service departed Kuching International Airport on Wednesday evening, with flight MY363 taking off at 6.50pm before arriving at Singapore Changi Airport at 8.04pm. The return flight, MY364, departed Singapore at 9.27pm and landed safely in Kuching at 10.36pm.
In a statement, AirBorneo described the launch as a meaningful achievement that coincided with Sarawak Day, reflecting the state’s continued growth and stronger links with neighbouring countries.
The airline said the Kuching-Singapore route represents its commitment to improving regional connectivity while creating greater opportunities for tourism, trade, investment, and business travel between Sarawak and Singapore.
AirBorneo Chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said the launch of the airline’s first international route is an important milestone, not only for AirBorneo but also for Sarawak.
He said Singapore serves as a key regional gateway and that the new route is expected to strengthen tourism, commercial activities, investment opportunities, and people-to-people ties between the two destinations.
According to him, the new service reflects Sarawak’s ambition to become more connected with regional and international markets while supporting the state’s long-term economic development.
Meanwhile, AirBorneo Chief Executive Officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin described the launch as the beginning of the airline’s next phase of growth.
He said Singapore was selected as AirBorneo’s first international destination because of its strong connectivity and close economic relationship with Sarawak. As one of the region’s leading aviation and commercial hubs, Singapore provides an ideal gateway for both business and leisure travellers.
Megat Ardian added that the airline hopes to introduce more international destinations in the future as part of its plan to enhance regional connectivity and support Sarawak’s long-term growth strategy.
With the introduction of the new route, AirBorneo will now operate daily flights between Kuching and Singapore. Tickets are available through the airline’s official website and its mobile application.
The launch comes as AirBorneo continues to expand its network following the introduction of its domestic services. The airline is expected to play an increasingly important role in improving accessibility to Sarawak while supporting the state’s tourism industry and economic development.
The new international connection is also expected to provide greater convenience for travellers, including business professionals, tourists, students, and families who frequently travel between Sarawak and Singapore.
