SRI AMAN – A new chapter for religious and community life began in the Tanjung Bijat area on Friday with the official opening of the Nahdatul Islam Mosque. Located in Kampung Melayu Tanjung Bijat, the facility was inaugurated in a ceremony that drew together government officials, religious leaders, and local residents to mark the occasion.
The event was officiated by YB Datuk Dr. Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department. His portfolio includes responsibilities for the Regional Development Agency, Kuching North City Hall, and Islamic Affairs. In his address, he highlighted the significance of the mosque not just as a place of prayer but as a cornerstone for social cohesion and spiritual growth within the community.
Also in attendance was Sahibus Siyadah Tuan Haji Mual bin Suaud, Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) and Secretary of the Sarawak Islamic Council. He was joined by the President of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha. The presence of these senior figures underscored the state’s commitment to providing adequate religious infrastructure for its Muslim population.
The ceremony, held on 24 July 2026, corresponding to 9 Safar 1448H, was attended by various heads of departments, community leaders, and guests of honour. The gathering reflected a strong sense of unity among the attendees, who came together to celebrate the completion of the project. Local residents played a vital role in enlivening the event, demonstrating their enthusiasm and gratitude for the new facility.
