KUCHING – A significant transition in leadership has taken place within the local scouting community, marking the beginning of a new chapter for youth development initiatives in the region.
The Petra Jaya Area Scout Council has officially unveiled its executive committee for the 2026 to 2028 term, signalling a renewed focus on strengthening organisational frameworks and fostering volunteerism among members.
The formal introduction of the new leadership team occurred during a dedicated Appointment Ceremony held recently. This event served not only to install the incoming council members but also to formally proclaim the presidency of the area council.
The proceedings were designed to reinforce the commitment of scouts to their duties while highlighting the importance of structured governance within the movement.
At the helm of the newly formed council is Puan Dayang Norjihan Binti Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari. Her appointment as President was the centrepiece of the proclamation ceremony, underscoring her pivotal role in guiding the organisation over the next two years.
In recognition of her contributions and standing within the community, she was also awarded the Sarawak Star Medal for the Keenyalang, a honour that reflects her dedication to public service and youth empowerment.
Supporting the president in this new tenure are eight newly appointed Council Members. Their selection represents a diverse group of individuals tasked with overseeing various aspects of the scout programme.
Additionally, the ceremony announced the appointment of Tuan Mohd Arnie Mustapha as the new Chairman of the District Scout Council. This dual layer of leadership aims to ensure that both area-wide strategies and district-level implementations are aligned and effective.
The event was officiated by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Mohamad Safri bin Datuk Haji Abdillah, who holds the positions of Vice President of the National Scout Council and Deputy President of the Sarawak Scout Council.
His presence highlighted the national significance of the local appointments and reinforced the connection between regional activities and the broader scouting movement in Malaysia.
Senior figures from the state scouting hierarchy were also in attendance, including Mr. John Lim Boon Beng, the Chief Commissioner of Sarawak Scouts, and Mr. Mohd Hanapi bin Ahmad, the Commissioner of Petra Jaya Area Scouts.
