UDC Event 2026

The initiative, held recently at the Kampung Asajaya Ulu Multipurpose Hall, focused on equipping rural entrepreneurs with essential tools to navigate the modern digital marketplace.

Organised by the Sarawak Digital Champion for Asajaya, the workshop was led by coach Puan Nurul Azira Ismail. The session formed part of a broader strategy to boost digital literacy within the district, aligning with state-wide aspirations to develop a robust and inclusive digital economy.

By targeting small-scale operators, the programme aims to increase the competitiveness of local enterprises in an increasingly online-driven commercial landscape.

The curriculum for Series 3 concentrated on two critical areas: fundamental marketing techniques and the adoption of cashless payment systems.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions designed to demystify digital platforms, allowing them to understand how to effectively promote their products and services beyond their immediate physical location.

The training provided practical guidance on building a digital presence, which is crucial for expanding customer reach in today’s connected world.

A significant portion of the workshop addressed the transition from traditional cash transactions to electronic payment methods.

Entrepreneurs were shown how to integrate these technologies into their daily operations, thereby improving efficiency and meeting the evolving preferences of consumers who increasingly favour convenience and speed in financial transactions.

Puan Nurul Azira Ismail highlighted that the current business environment demands more than just high-quality goods. She noted that sustainability and growth are now heavily dependent on a vendor’s ability to leverage technology.

“Today’s entrepreneurs not only need to have quality products, but also need to master digital marketing and digital payments to ensure that businesses can grow sustainably. The Kamek Digital Programme was created as a platform to empower the entrepreneurial community with knowledge and skills relevant to current needs.”

The event drew support from key administrative and development figures in the region. Tuan Ali bin Suhaili, Chief Executive Officer of AZAM Sarawak, attended the ceremony alongside his team, signalling the agency’s strong backing for grassroots digital empowerment.

Also present were Tuan Azri bin Deris, Head of the Kampung Asajaya Ulu Tribe, and Puan Salina binti Sakuan, representing the Asajaya District Office.

Their participation underscored the collaborative effort between community leaders, government agencies, and digital advocates to foster economic resilience in rural areas.

This initiative is not a standalone event but part of a continuing series. The fourth phase of the Kamek Digital Programme is scheduled for Sunday, 9 August 2026, at NaDi Kampung Sebandi Ulu.

The upcoming session will shift focus to Business Basics, covering essential aspects of management, financial planning, and long-term strategic development.

This progression ensures that participants receive a holistic education, moving from technical digital skills to broader operational competence.

The sustained effort to upskill the rural entrepreneurial community reflects a committed approach to socio-economic development in Asajaya. By reducing the digital divide, such programmes help ensure that businesses in remote or semi-rural districts are not left behind in the national economic transformation.

For many attendees, the workshop served as a confidence-building exercise, proving that technology can be accessible and beneficial regardless of prior experience.

The hands-on nature of the training allowed participants to ask specific questions related to their unique business challenges, receiving tailored advice that they could implement immediately.

As Sarawak continues to push its digital agenda, initiatives like the Kamek Digital Programme play a pivotal role in translating policy into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.

By empowering individuals with the know-how to compete in the digital economy, the state is laying the groundwork for a more diversified and resilient economic future.

The success of Series 3 suggests a strong appetite for such knowledge among Asajaya’s business community, promising active participation in future iterations of the course.
